October 7, 1:30 pm: This season’s first performance of Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte at the Metropolitan Opera, with Erika Miklósa as Queen of the Night. She will sing the role in 16 performances between October 7, 2006 and March 8, 2007.

October 10, 2 pm: The Parker String Quartet performs works by Brahms, Beethoven, Bartók and Schumann. Merkin Concert Hall at Kaufman Center.


Oktober 14, Veteran punk rockers are playing one last time at CBGB, which is scheduled to close October 31.

October 15, 2 pm: 50th Anniversary Memorial Concert for the 1956 Hungarian Revolution at Carnegie Hall, Isaac Stern Auditorium, with the Takács Quartet, Viktoria Vizin, András Molnár, Peter Frankl, the Philharmonia Orchestra of Yale, Shinik Hahm, conductor. On the program, works by Bartók, Liszt, Kodály, Erkel, Berlioz, and Ádám Balázs.


October 18, 8 pm: András Schiff and the Cappella Andrea Barca perform Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 22 in E-flat major, K.482, Symphony No 36 in C major (“Linz”), and Piano Concerto No. 23 in A major, K.488. Lincoln Center, Alice Tully Hall.

October 19, 8 pm: András Schiff and the Cappella Andrea Barca perform Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 24 in C minor, K.491, Symphony No. 41 in C major (“Jupiter”), and Piano Concerto No. 25 in C major, K.503. Lincoln Center, Alice Tully Hall.

October 22, 3 pm: The American Symphony Orchestra, Leon Botstein, music director, performs Liszt’s Psalm 13, “How long, O Lord?” (1859-63). Lincoln Center, Avery Fisher Hall.

October 22, 3 pm: György Ligeti’s Horn Trio is performed in the New York Philharmonic Ensembles Concerts series at Merkin Concert Hall at Kaufman Center.

October 22, 8:30 pm: Liszt Birthday Piano Recital with Steven Spooner, piano, and Ádám György, piano, performing works by Liszt, Chopin, Schubert, Brahms, Bartók, and Dohnányi. Concert Commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Hungarian Uprising, at Carnegie Hall, Weill Recital Hall.

October 25, 8 pm: András Schiff performs an all-Mozart program: Sonata in A Major, K. 331, "Alla Turca"; Fantasy in D Minor, K. 397; Adagio in B Minor, K. 540; Rondo in D Major, K. 485; Sonata in A Minor, K. 310; Sonata in C Major, K. 545; Rondo in A Minor, K. 511; Variations in G Major, K. 455 on "Unser dummer Pöbel meint."
