Miklósa and Her Guests, namely Joseph Calleja and Roberto Scandiuzzi,
performing arias by Verdi, Donizetti and Bellini; they are accompanied by the
MÁV Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Ádám Medveczky. Miklósa made her
Metropolitan Opera debut as Queen of the Night in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte; she
continues to perform in that role in New

pm: Benefit concert for Sándor
Járóka. The violin virtuoso and bandleader – son of legendary Roma musician
Sándor Járóka, Sr. (1922-84) – has been in a coma for three years, and the
concert, at which the cream of Hungary’s
Roma musicians will be performing, is intended to assure his continued medical
care. István Verebes, the ever popular television talk show host, will act as
master of ceremonies.

pm: From Mozart to Mystic
Dreams, classical and jazz piano evening with Béla Szakcsi Lakatos and the Dohnányi Orchestra of Budafok,
conducted by Gábor Hollerung. “Szakcsi” – as he is known to his fans worldwise
– will perform in two aspects of his manifold talents: the first half on the
evening will feature songs and improvisations from his jazz-inflected works
(available in recordings he made for GRP
Records); following the intermission he will play as soloist in Mozart’s K.537
piano concerto in D major, “Coronation.”

“Snétberger Classic” – an evening
with Hungarian-born virtuoso guitarist (now a Berlin resident) Ferenc Snétberger,
accompanied by the Danubia Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Domonkos Héja.
Snétberger, who is celebrating his 50th birthday this year, will be
performing both classical works of guitar literature and his own recent
compositions, titled East.

March 16: The Budapesti
Tavaszi Fesztivál/Budapest Spring Festival kicks off March 16 this year,
continuing through April 1. Featuring some 120 artists and ensembles appearing
